COL Fashion Tints

Why it's important to ask for a fashion color by level vs. a percentage:

Below, you’ll see Levels 1, 2, and 3 for each fashion color. While they may appear to have the same density or darkness, they actually differ in the amount of light they block. This means that using a percentage to describe tint density can be misleading—it doesn’t always accurately reflect the visual “darkness” of the tint.

For example, a Level 1, 2, and 3 tint may all look equally dark in the different colors, but each blocks a different percentage of light. If you ask for a “20% yellow tint,” it could be interpreted in two ways:

  • As a Level 1 yellow, which visually appears light, or

  • As a tint that blocks 20% of light, which would be a much darker Level 3.

This is why using levels instead of percentages provides a more accurate and consistent way to describe the desired appearance.
